Quartieri Privacy Policy
App: Quartieri.
Quartieri helps you discover the character and stories of the neighbourhood you are standing in. This policy explains how the Quartieri mobile apps handle your data.
We focus on capturing only the information needed to show you nearby highlights and to keep the app reliable. We do not run advertisements or sell personal information.
Key Points
A quick summary of the most important things to know:
Location stays local
Precise coordinates and compass heading are requested only when you tap the compass button to generate a guide. They are kept in memory just long enough to fetch results and are not stored on our servers after the response is returned.
Limited data sharing
We share the coordinates you provide with Mapbox, Google Places, and OpenAI so they can return nearby points of interest, and narrative descriptions.
Diagnostics only
Crash and error information is sent to Sentry together with standard device details and IP address so we can find and fix problems faster.
Aggregate usage analytics
We log pseudonymous screen views and feature usage events to Expo Insights using random session identifiers so we can understand which parts of Quartieri need improvement.
You control permissions
Location and motion access can be turned off at any time in your device settings. If you keep them off, the app will not collect that data.
Information We Collect
We gather only the data required to deliver neighbourhood insights and maintain the service.
Location & heading data
When you request a guide, Expo Location supplies your precise GPS coordinates and compass heading. That information is forwarded to our API so we can look up nearby places and describe what is around you.
Point-of-interest context
Nearby place metadata, map tiles, and public photos returned by partners (Mapbox and Google Places) flow back through our API and into the app experience. We do not add extra personal data to these requests.
Crash & diagnostic data
If a crash or critical error occurs, Sentry automatically collects device identifiers, operating system details, IP address, stack traces, and the actions leading up to the failure.
Usage analytics events
Expo Insights receives screen view and interaction events together with a randomly generated session ID, device type, operating system version, and app version so we can measure feature adoption.
Website visits
The quartieri.app website is a simple landing page. We do not run analytics scripts or set cookies, but our hosting provider and Sentry may receive standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, and timestamp) when you load a page.
How We Use Information
The data we request is used for the following purposes:
Delivering neighbourhood guidance
We combine your coordinates with Mapbox reverse geocoding and Google Places results to assemble curated points of interest near you.
Generating narrative descriptions
We send your heading, coordinates, and the list of nearby places to OpenAI so it can return concise architectural and cultural summaries.
Maintaining reliability
Sentry crash reports help us understand stability issues. Expo Updates periodically checks for new app versions so you receive fixes and content updates.
Improving product decisions
We review aggregated Expo Insights trends to understand how features are used and where to focus future development.
Third-Party Services
We rely on a small set of specialised providers. Each receives only the data required to perform its task:
Mapbox (Reverse Geocoding)
Receives your latitude and longitude to return nearby street, neighbourhood, and place names. Mapbox processes the request under its own privacy policy.
Google Places Platform
Receives your coordinates, search radius, and place identifiers so we can surface points of interest and related photos.
OpenAI
Receives your heading, coordinates, and a list of nearby places to produce short descriptions of local highlights. No account or contact information is sent.
Sentry
Receives crash and error reports containing device identifiers, IP address, and diagnostic metadata (per Sentry’s default PII settings).
Expo Insights
Receives pseudonymous analytics events (such as screen views and button taps) along with random session identifiers, device type, and app version to generate aggregate product metrics.
Expo Updates
Receives device platform, app version, and installation identifiers when the mobile apps check for updates.
Data Retention & Storage
Location coordinates and compass readings are kept in volatile memory and are discarded after nearby results have been returned. We do not store them in a database or link them to a profile.
Server access logs, Expo Insights analytics events, and Sentry crash reports are retained only for as long as needed to investigate issues or understand usage trends, after which they are deleted in line with our operational practices and the third parties’ retention policies.
Your Choices & Rights
You stay in control of your information:
Manage permissions
Disable location or motion access in your device settings to stop the app from collecting those signals. The app will still open, but location-aware features will be limited.
Request deletion of diagnostics
Contact us with the approximate time of the issue and device details so we can remove associated Sentry crash reports where feasible.
Opt out of updates
You may decline in-app update prompts. Doing so will keep your current app version, but you may miss new content or fixes.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all communications between the app, our API, and third-party services. Access to developer tooling and Sentry is limited to the Quartieri team. While no system is perfectly secure, we regularly review permissions, rotate keys, and monitor for unusual activity.
Children
Quartieri is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
Policy Updates
We may update this policy as we add features or integrate new partners. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app or on this page, and we will refresh the “Last updated” date below.
